If you do not have these top 10 Christmas songs in your holiday music collection, you are missing out on the true classics. Find out what these top 10 Christmas songs are and how to get them immediately.
This year, new artists will be putting out their versions of classic Christmas songs and I will listen to all of them. It is always interesting to hear a new take on old classics. However, many of the Top Selling Christmas Songs for 2009 will be the ones that you have come to know and love over the years, the Christmas songs that have withstood the test of time.
In this article, I am going to tell you my picks for the top 10 classic Christmas songs.
Leading off the group is Nat King Cole. Taken from what I consider to be one of the Best Christmas Albums of all time, “The Christmas Song” is not only the album title but the name of the song. Originally recorded in 1946, this song is still one of the top selling Christmas songs on the market.
The Vince Guaraldi Trio comes in at number 2 on our list. The name may not be familiar to you but their songs sure are. This song, choice #2, is called “Christmastime is Here”. Does it not ring a bell? How about if I tell you that it comes from the album entitled “A Charlie Brown Christmas”? Released in 1965, this song continues to be a holiday bestseller.
Can chipmunks do Christmas? You bet they can. “The Chipmunk Song” is rated # 3 of the all time classic Christmas songs.
Bing Crosby comes in at number four with “White Christmas”. Released way back in 1945, this song is the essence of Christmas. It comes from the album of the same name and remains the best selling Christmas album of all time.
Eartha Kitt enters the list at number five with her rendition of “Santa Baby”. Released in 1953, the song harkens back to a day when a slow seductive beat, combined with a great female voice, made for intoxicating music. In “Santa Baby”, Eartha Kitt, as the voice of all women, asks for the most extravagant gifts using all her feminine wiles. Ladies, perform this song for your men this Christmas and you will receive every gift your heart desires!
At #6, we have Dean Martin singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”. The lovable Dean Martin is someone that belongs in every Christmas collection. Pour yourself a stiff eggnog and listen to Dean Martin for the Holidays.
A Christmas cannot be spent without the Christmas hymns of Andy Williams. At #7, we have “The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”. Written and performed in 1963, this song has become a Christmas staple. How appropriate because Christmas is truly “The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”.
The “Twelve Days of Christmas” brought to you by Ray Conniff & The Ray Conniff Singers is number 8 on the list of the top classic Christmas songs. We all know this one and it belongs in every collection.
A relatively new entry on the list is Amy Grant. She is at #9 with her recording of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. Of course, this song has been performed by hundreds of singers but her rendition surpasses all.
And what would a Christmas list be without Elvis Presley? His recording of “Blue Christmas” belongs in everybody’s collection.
Well, I was limited to 10 choices for this article and these are the songs that make my top 10 classic Christmas songs list.

Wonderful Christmas Songs From Old Films

While the holiday season once more rolls around, the familiar strains of well known Christmas carols sing out from radio and television. First came the carolers walking around the small village neighborhood singing carols in exchange for a mug of hot beverage to warm them as they sang their way through the night. And then came radios echoing the beautiful strains of Joy to the World as well as Silent Night. And so was the advent of television and many Christmas shows were created. These shows became the yearly Christmas classics that we love and enjoy.
The reknowned “A Christmas Carol” written by Charles Dickens, adapted for television has become a classic of these shows. Who does not know the tale of this old stingy, avaricious, selfish and vindictive man called Ebenezer Scrooge, who became a kind, generous and grandfatherly gentleman? Many carols are largely and regularly featured in any adaptation you care to watch. The lyrics of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Silent Night” are sung by a multitude of young boys hoping to get a reward from their performance; consisting of a mug of the warm alcoholic and spicy drink and some cakes.
Who can forget James Stewart in his role in “It’s a Wonderful Life”? How the entire family is gathered around the Christmas tree singing Joy to the World after Clarence the angel shows him what life would have been like for the others around him had he not been born. What a wonderful life indeed.
Then, naturally, there is one of the most watched movies with the best selling Christmas song ever… I am talking about “White Christmas” sung by the only, the unique, the reknowned Bing Crosby! This Christmas song is nowadays regarded as the most popular in the world!
Who does not remember the wonderful “Christmas Special” held by Bing Crosby for many years? In fact, each one of these shows had a huge number of movie-stars like Fred Astaire, Mary Martin, Andre Previn… Every guest would have to sing a Christmas song such as “White World of Winter”, “Jingle Bells”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, and many more; alone or in duet with Bing Crosby. Bing Crosby’s last Christmas show was unforgettable as David Bowie did a duet with Bing Crosby. “The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” was performed by these two big names in the world of music. Just like White Christmas, it is for sure one of the most wonderful Christmas songs ever produced.
